Olympic champion sprinter Sir Murray Halberg will head a long list of Queen’s Birthday Honours recipients.
The 74-year-old will be awarded an Order of New Zealand for services to athletics and charity, which he can now add to his OBE, knighthood and numerous other awards and accolades.
‘This is the highest honour you can get as a New Zealander in civil situation, and of course whilst it bears my name and I’m proud that it does and quite humble about it all, it is in fact a tribute and recognition of the work of the Halberg Trust.’
Sir Murray established the Halberg Trust in 1963.
Derek Lardelli, Wira Gardiner and Wynton Rufer also join Sir Murray Halberg on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
